Work Related Stress is a Concern to All of Us

  
  
  
 

cg88c resized 600Everyone is affected by stress on a daily basis, especially work related stress. While some stress is a normal part of our day to day life, too much stress can interfere with our productivity and have a negative impact on our health. It is important to find ways to manage your work related stress.

Good management practices to minimize or prevent work related stress include:

  • Listen to the individual
  • Consider consulting Human Resources
  • Involve the employee in decisions by jointly agreeing on actions.
  • Follow up after one month to check on whether things have improved
  • Find out whether others are also experiencing work related stress.
  • Finally, remember that health-related issues are ‘privacy cases’ and should remain confidential.

You can manage your own stress by:

Developing support structures; talk to other individuals.

Taking control:

  • Take action … do something
  • Say no to excessive demands
  • Prioritize
  • Slow down   
  • Leave on time; take a break
  • Exercise

Reduce pressure by being objective:

  • Avoid jumping to conclusions or taking things personally
  • Ask the question: Will it really matter five years from now? 

Learn techniques to remain focused

Recognize the impact of change and the stages one goes through when experiencing change. 

Finally, maintain self-esteem and remember that one is not always alone in one’s thoughts and feelings.
